La
Pradera, which means “the meadow”,
is a unique community for those who desire
to live in a way that cherishes the beauty
of nature and protects its fragile resources.
Set
in a magnificent landscape of juniper-studded
hills, endless sky and distant mountains, La
Pradera will carry on the tradition for Northern
New Mexico of caring for the land, with water
conservation a major priority. A state-of-the-art
wastewater treatment plant will treat and recycle
gray water, which will flush toilets and irrigate
landscaping. Another system will manage
and distribute
storm water throughout the site to restore soil
and preserve wildlife habitat. Roads are configured
along land contours to minimize disruption of
the natural terrain and to optimize drainage.
The
La Pradera lifestyle will be strongly community-oriented.
Fifty percent of the land is reserved for open
space, parks, and trails including a sand volleyball
court, Frisbee golf course, children’s
sandbox and a fruit orchard. The homesites
are clustered around three neighborhood parks
to
encourage the emergence of community, and a lovely
meadow with native plants will be a centerpiece
of the landscape. And while maintaining a feel
of country living, La Pradera offers easy access
to education, fitness facilities and the arts
with Santa Fe Community College, the Genoveva
Chavez Community Center, and the Institute of
American Indian Arts, shopping, movie theater,
2 malls and restaurants.
Residents
of La Pradera will find themselves living in
harmony with the land, along with other individuals
and families who have chosen a similar lifestyle,
all within a development that seeks to sustain
the beauty and wonder of the Northern New Mexico
landscape.
